The Big Bang Theory was arguably one of the most popular comedy shows on television. After 12 long years of delighting nerds (and non-nerds) around the world, the show finally came to an end on May 16, 2019. But it looks like fans can’t seem to get enough of Dr. Sheldon Cooper and his motley crew of geeky friends. If you are one of those, here are some interesting tidbits about this cerebral comedy for you to geek out on:
-
Sheldon Cooper probably doesn’t have Asperger’s. Or does he?
Many viewers of the show seem to naturally assume that Sheldon’s awkward and anti-social behavior was a result of Asperer’s Syndrome. However, producer Bill Prady has very clearly said that, “We write the character as a character. A lot of people see various things in him and make the connections. Our feeling is that Sheldon's mother never got a diagnosis, so we don't have one.”

There is a bee species named Bazinga. And also a jellyfish genus!
Sheldon’s iconic catchphrase “Bazinga!” became a lot more iconic when in 2013, Brazilian biologist Andre Nemesio named a bee species “Euglossa Bazinga”. The bee had managed to trick scientists for quite a while with its similarity to other species. The name was a way to honor the clever, funny nerd that was Sheldon Cooper.
There is also a genus of the rhizostome jellyfish called Bazinga.

The Big Bang Theory copycat had also sprung up.
When the third season of The Big Bang Theory was on air, the producers of the show came to know about a copycat in Belarus. The clearly plagiarized show was called The Theorists, and it featured four scientists named Sheldon, Leo, Hovart and Raj (so much for creativity!), along with a blonde waitress named Natasha who lived next door. The best part was that before the TBBT producers could do anything, the copycat went off air when the actors came to know that it was a rip-off.

We don’t know Penny’s surname!
Unlike the other characters on the show, Penny was the only one whose surname was never revealed. Not even once, in 12 whole years. She was just Penny. While Bill Prady said that that it will be revealed eventually, it never was.

Howard’s entire collection of toys was female.
When you think of feminist characters on the show, Howard would probably be the last person to cross your mind. However, his collection of toys and figurines say otherwise. Either that, or he was really just a pervert. Throughout the show, you will see that his huge collection of comic book and sci-fi toys and figurine were all female characters, ranging from Wonder Woman to Bat Girl. It seemed that the only male toy in his collection was Jabba the Hutt- although he too had Princess Leia sitting next to him.
